Barb Wunschl is a quick study, take-charge woman with a tireless servant’s heart. Beginning in high school where she worked for three years as a server at the Hinsdale Oasis, she moved to a line worker job at the Borse Plastics factory in Willowbrook. Within her fours years there she was moved up to floor manager. Missing the connection with people that food provides, she left the factory floor to become the chef at May’s Lake Village and to take charge of shopping, preparing, and serving meals for the Franciscan Fathers of Oak Brook for two years. Later, Barbara added to her considerable patter of serving the position as private chef for The Association of Retarded Citizens in Bellwood where she prepared individualized meals for people as needed.

Barb first learned about volunteering at POWER Connection in September 2006 while attending Living Water Community Church. Barb began using her enthusiasm for serving by faithfully working full days at POWER Connection’s Monthly Food Pantry as well as collecting donations. Barb used her talents of organization and administrative skills to help start and oversee the new weekly Extension food Pantry in June of 2008, which takes place three days a week.

For the past 24 years, this now mother of three and grandmother of five and has continued to faithfully serve people in restaurants in the western suburbs of Chicago. She continues to serve as Director of POWER Connection’s Extension Food Pantry.
